High-Performance SSD - Samsung V-NAND 860 EVO 1 TB SATA M.2.

When is the best time to upgrade your Hard Drive? Typically, within two years usage of your laptop sounds economical but when there's a need and budget well you can do it anytime. Here, my laptop Dell Inspiron 7460 deserves to upgrade its hard drive due to work's requirements. From Sandisk SSD M.2 2280 128 GB to Samsung V-NAND SSD 860 EVO SATA M.2 1TB. Why SSD? SSD stands for Solid State Drive and it's much better compared to the traditional mechanical hard drive in terms of power requirements and speed of accessing data. SSDs require low power operation thus prolonging battery life in laptops and tablets, and data access is much faster due to memory chips used instead of moving parts. Another is SSDs are shock-resistant that's why chances of lost data are reduced when laptops or tablets are dropped.

How to install the Samsung V-NAND SSD 860 EVO 1TB SATA M.2?

First and foremost, check the laptop's manual guide and requirements. In my case, I referred to the official website of the DELL. Before buying the SSD, check first the compatibility of the product to your devices. Make sure to have the necessary tools in opening the laptop particularly the set of screwdrivers. Follow the specific procedure of opening the laptop according to its specific manual. Then make sure to detach the battery cable from the motherboard before removing the installed hard drive. Locate the existing hard drive, then unscrew and slowly take it off from the slot. Now, replace the new SSD (Samsung V-NAND SSD 860 EVO SATA M.2 1TB) with the slot and screw it. Put back the battery cable to the battery connector and close the laptop by following again the laptop's manual guide of closing/opening. Then, reboot your laptop and make sure to enter the BIOS setup to check whether the new hardware is detected or not. If it appears on the list, congratulations you've done it well but if not go back to the first step. Then, exit from BIOS setup to continue to Windows environment. Right there, your SSD is ready to format and good to go for data storage.

Where to buy SSDs?

You can buy Solid State Drives from any computer store. But please beware of fake products, make sure you buy them from authorized dealers or gadget stores. I got mine from the AMAZON stores. By the time I bought it last January 2021, the price was  $149.27 and the capacity is 1 TB (terabyte).
